Greg Norman posted a heartfelt message to this year’s Olympians with a memorable photograph from his experience at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
As the curtain comes down on @rio2016 today just want to say congrats to all the athletes for committing 4 years of their lives to being good enough to compete in the #olympics. To all those that medaled go reap the rewards of achieving one of the highest accolades in sport. And to all the golfers who competed – thank you for showcasing our sport the way you did. With pride and passion. The same pride and passion I had when I was fortunate enough to represent Golf to some degree during the closing ceremony at the Sydney Olympics 2000 (by hitting plastic golf balls into spectators on the back of #shark float.
The Shark hitting golf balls off a shark. Can’t beat that.
As an elder statesmen of the game, it’s a tremendous gesture by Norman to thank all of the players who went to Rio to not only represent their countries but also represent the game of golf after being absent from the Olympics for a hundred years.
