Kerr Edges Ahead of Webb After Two Rounds in Scotland

Cristie Kerr shot a 1-over par 73 on Friday at a windy Dundonald Links and leads the Ladies Scottish Open by one stroke after 36 holes.

Kerr, who started the day in second place at 6-under, struggled over her first 11 holes, with two bogeys and a double to drop down the board. But the 39-year-old American finished strong with birdies on 13, 14, and 17 to get into the clubhouse at 5-under.

“I didn’t hit it that great today but I still managed. My caddie and I managed the golf course well, and we made the recovery shots when we needed to,” said Kerr, who is seeking to become just the third two-time winner on Tour this season.

First round leader Karrie Webb was cruising along at 1-over, while holding onto a slim one-shot lead, but bogeys on her final two dropped the Aussie a shot behind Kerr at 4-under.

“Disappointed with that but obviously if you’d have told me before I teed off yesterday, that I would be 4-under, probably would have taken it,” said Webb. “Hopefully the wind will stay up this afternoon and I won’t be too far behind starting tomorrow.”

A pair of Koreans are two shots back at 3-under, tied for third: Sei Young Kim (72) and Sun Young Yoo (69). Pornanong Phatlum (73) rounds out the top five at 2-under.

Quotable

“Just going to go hit a few balls and try to find the feel. It’s hard when you play back-to-back in heavy wind with the swing, but we’ll work on it.”
