RBC Canadian Open Field: By The Numbers

The 2017 RBC Canadian Open will once again be contested at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.

The Canadian Open is the third oldest tournament on the PGA Tour’s schedule, with only the British and U.S. Opens in existence longer. The first Canadian tournament was played in 1904 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Dorval, Quebec. Englishman Jack Oke shot 16-over-par and pocketed $60.

Like the three previous tournaments prior to the British Open (Quicken Loans, Greenbrier Classic, and John Deere Classic), the field up north is one of the weakest you will find on the PGA Tour schedule, with only two players, Dustin Johnson (No. 1) and Matt Kuchar (No. 12), ranked in the world top 30.

Along with Johnson and Kuchar, other ‘name’ players in the field include Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson, Charley Hoffman, Keegan Bradley, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els, and Jim Furyk.

The defending champion is Jhonattan Vegas, who will return to Canada to defend his title.
