Ryder Cup Report: Zach Johnson Seeks To Solidify Spot at John Deere

0

As the PGA Tour hits a little bit of a lull because of the Olympics, we may not be seeing a ton of change in the Ryder Cup standings for a few weeks. The narrative for the standings has been how little separation there is between spots 5-13.

The golfers holding those spots are no more or less qualified than the others. Whether you’re in the 6 spot or the 13th spot, it’s really going to come down to which four players will be able to play the best down the stretch.

Patrick Reed finished with a T11 at the Travelers this past week and leap-frogged Bubba Watson and Brandt Snedeker to nab the 8 spot. Reed may be one guy who doesn’t need to qualify. He will be tough not to take as a captain’s choice should he need it. Reed thrives off playing for his country as he’s proven in both Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup play.

The only changes we may see this week at the John Deere Classic are Zach Johnson solidifying his spot (a win would be worth around 850 points), or someone like Kevin Na winning, and getting into the conservation for a captain’s pick. Otherwise, this week may be relatively uneventful in terms of Ryder Cup implications.

Here’s a look at the updated list of Ryder Cup points as we head into the John Deere Classic.
