The story behind Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston’s nickname is a funny one that goes back to when he was a kid.

After the Englishman finished up his great 2nd Round at the Open Championship he addressed the media, where someone asked him where the name “Beef” came from.

Johnston explains that one of his friends said his head “looked like a bit of beef” when he grows his hair out. From there, the rest is history.

Beef is one of our intriguing long shots to win the Open, and he’s also a fan favorite both in Europe and the United States. His style on and off the course is infectious to fans, like when he hits a burger off a tee, or talks about getting drunk after a win.
