THE PLAYERS Championship Field: By The Numbers

The PGA Tour and its players participate in four major championship per season – The Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. But, ironically (or not), they hold the rights to none.

Which is why former PGA Tour commissioner, Deane Beman, created THE PLAYERS in 1974. It was meant to be the Tour’s own major, and the game’s unofficial fifth.

THE PLAYERS Championship will once again be played at the iconic TPC Sawgrass, the tournament’s permanent home since 1982.

The field in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida is about as loaded as a tournament can get with the Top 10 in Official World Golf Ranking and 48 of top-50.

By The Numbers

455 – Total number of victories combined by players in the field
147 – Total players in the field.
111 – Number of PGA Tour winners in the field
59 – The age of the oldest player in the field, Bernhard Langer, after earning an exemption for winning the 2016 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship.
21 – Players who have won during the 2016-17 season.
18 – Number of first-time PLAYERS Championship participants.
9 – The former PLAYERS Championship winners.
