Thomas Pieters Withdraws From KLM Open With Arguably the Most Bizarre Injury

The defending champion of the European Tour’s KLM Open won’t be repeating as champion this year thanks to an unfortunate run in with bees.

Pieters refers to the sting as “very unfortunate worst case scenario” in a statement he posted on Twitter:

Certainly a shame for the Euro tour to lose one of its hottest players to such a bizarre injury. Clearly it was a difficult decision for the Belgian who really wanted to win the KLM Open for a 2nd straight year.

The 3-time European Tour winner was recently chosen as a captain’s pick for the European Ryder Cup team.
